Professional Indemnity – Solicitors
Since the year 2000, Solicitors have been required to place their Professional Indemnity Insurance through the open market from an ever changing list of insurers. Solicitors in England and Wales must maintain qualifying insurance in accordance with the rules administered by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Alternative Business Structures and Limited Liability Partnerships must have at least £3m compulsory cover. All other cases (for example, sole practitioners and partnerships), must have at least £2m.
We have seen significant premium fluctuations over the last 20 years as a result of insurers’ appetites on personal injury and conveyancing changing, and a number of insurers going out of business due to a combination of a lack of assets and a large number of claim payments.
